Space in 3 Steps

Scan, track, analyze

In this post I want to give you the first baby vertical slice of using Space.

There are three steps:

  1. scan your space

  2. define tracking areas

  3. do stuff with collision events (tracking time spent, triggering devices, so many, many options are possible)

A LOT more is possible but I’ll save that for a future post.

Scanning

Use a lidar enabled phone to create an initial mesh.

Create Tracking Areas

Drag and drop shapes on the space, give them names, so you use collisions for apps.

Do Stuff

The most basic starting point is just tracking time spent. This is a quick snippet from, unfortunately NOT the garage example but just to show you I can get collision events out I recorded 12 seconds of walking in and out of the living room.

Unknown reflects the rest of a 24 hour span, don’t worry about it.

A sample script using tracking areas in the living room.

Next Steps

  1. create a housewide deployment (March)

  2. provide examples with sizzle to show what is possible (April)

  3. build basic OTA and bindings so folks can start trying this out (Q2)

BTW, feel free with any questions, demos, or problems you may be interested in!
